CRU Wine Bar is awarded "Three Wine Glasses" by Gourmet Traveller Wine List of the Year Aw

A Prestigious Award from Gourmet Traveller

CRU Wine Bar, located in Kew, has been awarded “Three Glasses” for the Wine List in Gourmet Traveller’s Wine List of the Year Awards. This is their third consecutive year receiving “Three Glasses”.

Business Owner and Sommelier Tony Donnini (Certified, Court of Master Sommeliers) says, “CRU’s goal was always to be one of Melbourne’s finest wine bars. Six years later, we believe we are amongst some of the best. Not only in Melbourne, but in Australia. We believe in providing a variety of wine to suite people from all walks of life. This could not be achieved without the help of my business partners, Peter Rose and Andrew Pickering, and our team of dedicated staff."

CRU Wine Bar is one of 116 other venues in Melbourne that have been recognized by Gourmet Traveller, and shares the top honour of “Three Glasses” with only 43 other venues in Victoria.

Employee Colleen Haggarty (Wine Spirits Education Trust Level 3) says, “It’s an honour to share the Three Wine Glass rating with top restaurants in Melbourne, such as Vue de Monde, Rockpool Bar & Grill, and Lake House. It’s been such an amazing process to watch this list grow and evolve.

CRU’s Wine List contains nearly 400 wines, and also includes signature cocktails, aperitifs, beers, digestives and more. CRU showcases wines from around the world, including rare Super Tuscans, Vertical Vintages of Australian established vineyards such as Red Bank, Jasper Hill, Cullen, Rockford and others.

Patrick Walsh, Director of fine-wine importer and wholesale distributor Cellarhand says, “The great thing about CRU is that it came along when there was a very real need in the area for somewhere to go for a decent glass (or bottle!) of wine… I love the diversity of the list, the way that it speaks to the drinker with all the information provided, but never in a wine-snobby way…Really pleased that CRU us starting to get some of the recognition it deserves!”

The award was followed by Restaurant & Catering Association's “WINE BAR" Award for Victoria & Tasmania.

"A thunderous list that showcases a truly global breadth of the wonderful world of wine. You can tell immediately that great care is given about the collection and that a love of wine is the beating heart of Cru's team. The list opens with lengthy explanations about their mores and interests, and segues into a collection of 'weird & wonderful' that should keep drinkers on their toes. Following is a collection that runs with wide appeal, sparkling wines come from all over the planet, even showcasing rarely seen fizz from England, though there's grower Champagne, Cava, Franciacorta and Aussie fizz alongside. There seems to be a particular bent towards powerful wines of Italy, though you'll find salve in fresher pinot noirs and unusual red grape varieties of Europe, if lighter is your thing. Plenty under the hood in the white wine selection too, with marquee producers of chardonnay, riesling and sauvignon blanc served well. Nicely done all up."
